Tourism Council WA recently staged the inaugural “You’re the Voice” 2010 Conference at the Burswood Entertainment Complex from the 18th – 20th April. The Conference attracted 185 delegates over the two days and by all measures was an outstanding success.

Opening with a poolside cocktail function, at which the Minister for Tourism, Hon. Liz Constable MLA outlined the Governments priorities for tourism in WA, the two day conference featured an exceptional line up of guest presenters and was complimented by panel discussions involving tourism stakeholders from all around the state.

A post conference online survey will be distributed to conference delegates next week however feedback thus far has been overwhelming positive.  The Conference concluded with TCWA’s annual Parliament House function.

Parliament House Function

The annual TCWA Parliament House function, held in the courtyard of Parliament House on the 20th April, was once again a huge success with over 200 tourism industry stakeholders attended the function, together with many politicians including the Minister for Tourism, the Hon. Liz Constable.

This function, now in its 5th year, continues to be a valuable networking exercise giving the tourism industry the opportunity to engage first hand with many of the politicians in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.

TCWA would like to thank our sponsors for the evening event - Broadwater Hotels & Resorts, Prime Laundry and Skywest. The food and beverage, certainly a highlight of the evening, was supplied by Mad Fish, Lion Nathan, Exmouth Fishing Co., Cambray Sheep Cheese, Chocolate Drops and Holy Smoke.

Perth to host Qantas Australian Tourism Awards

Tourism Council WA are proud to announce that it was successful in its bid to host the 2010 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards here in Perth!

The National Tourism Alliance announced last week that TCWA, who will be responsible for staging the Awards Gala Dinner in March 2011, had enthusiastically embraced the opportunity to host the prestigious Awards presentation.

Over 900 people from around Australia are expected to attend the National Awards, from which finalists are drawn from the State and Territory Tourism Awards winners across 27 categories. The Awards recognise, at a state and national level, those tourism businesses that deliver excellence in tourism experiences – they are the best of the best.

This will be a fantastic opportunity for WA to showcase the extraordinary tourism experiences that we have to offer!

Technology Driving Tourism
Technology Driving Tourism

It was made very clear to all attendees at the recent “You’re the Voice” 2010 Conference the crucial role technology plays in establishing, marketing and growing a modern tourism business.

Particular mention was made regarding the great possibilities utilising internet and video content. TCWA is pleased that its association with local TV company Loco TV is leading the way in Australia in this fast growing marketing sector.

The TCWA partnered series "There's Nothing to do in Perth!?!" is now into episode 12 out of 13 in series 1 and has already promoted dozens of local tourism businesses to 300,000+ local and global viewers via www.locotv.com.au . In fact, keynote speaker Michael Malone, founder of iiNet, made special mention of the fact that iiNet were also now broadcasting this and several other Loco TV series to their national customer base via their new IPTV service!

Here's what some TCWA member participants in the Loco TV series think of it -

"Have just watched the show on line and loved it. Well worth it!"  Steve Lowe, Park Manager, Whiteman Park.

" I was looking to find a partner who would be able to support us in effectively communicating all the reasons to want to visit Perth Zoo. LocoTV used their expertise to input into planning and to guide production during filming. The end result was delivery of an excellent product which surpassed all our expectations. Engaging, punchy and meeting our objectives, the TV show turned out to be incredible value for money. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and we have enjoyed tracking the growing viewers stats as we reach a local, regional and global audience.   Ceri Price - Marketing Manager, Perth Zoo

There’s More to Workers’ Compensation
There’s More to Workers’ Compensation

You may already know that if you employ anyone, you are required to have a workers’ compensation insurance policy to protect them and your business against the cost of work-related injuries and illnesses. But, did you know that you also have a legal obligation to have a written procedure called an injury management system?

An injury management system describes the steps to be followed if a workplace injury occurs and provides the name and contact details of the person who has day-to-day responsibility for injury management.

WorkCover WA provides guidelines and templates to make it easy for you to comply with your injury management obligations. These can be found at the WorkCover WA website
